Real Working Themometer and Hygrometer!

First Impressions
Hidden among the survival and hiking listings on ebay was this little curiosity. An all singing- all dancing military style compass with everything on it you might need when out hiking etc. With a low starting price I felt compelled to throw my hat into the ring and bid up.
I ended up landing this little beauty for £1.70 including shipping which seemed an absolute bargain at the time. If it turned out to be crap then I haven't lost much.
It arrived within a couple of days from a UK seller based somewhere down south. It was well packaged and came in a nice little cardboard box.

As you can see this item comes with tons of features.  Perhaps the most surprising aspect is the fact that the Thermometer and Hygrometer actually work! - I was expecting them to be just for show and dummy dials especially due to the low price point of the compass.
Inside the top module is the reflective mirror for emergency Signalling. Running down the middle of the mirror is the sight Line for navigation. - one half of the fire lighting kit is also situated here.
The bottom section houses everything else. The compass, spirit level. Magnifier, ruler, whistle, Flashlight and corresponding fire maker. It's a good design and utilises every bit of space.

Packed To The Rafters with Features

The Compass unit is constructed from cheap grade plastic. Not that heavy duty but should be strong enough to cope is everyday situations.  This gadget is a clam shell design which allows both modules to connect via a hinge at the back. Sitting on the hinge is a copper coloured hook pin. This hook pin is used for pushing the various tools out of the main body. Due to the very small form factor of this compass available space is at a premium meaning the fire starting pieces and whistle are housed in the base.  It's so small and fiddly getting these things out that losing this hook pin would constitute a disaster! - I couldn't fish them out without it!

The Compass works well

Overall on first impression, this is great little package. Of course it's not going to be made from aluminium,  not at this price but I'm sure the plastic should hold out. It's not as bad as I'm making out to be. The plastic construction keeps the weight down anyway which is always welcome.

This LED Torch also Illuminates The Compass!

Testing
I went through every feature of this tool and found that everything worked fine. It's remarkable really.
Comparing the temp, Hygrometer and compass readings against my existing equipment I found that this unit was pretty accurate.
Fire starting was a fiddly affair but effective and the whistle is bloody loud!
At night the little LED Flashlight is only really any good for close map reading work which is all you might need.
The light also doubles as a compass illuminator which throws a beam of light over the inside. It's not amazingly bright but you can make out the compass position. Enough to get you by at least.

Check Your Bearings Without Opening The Lid!

For those who can't be arsed with opening the compass up every time we have the compass side view window. This works really well and a nice feature.

Some Decent Instructions For A Change.

As insignificant as it might seem, the instruction sheet is a nice inclusion to the item. It's well written and explains every feature in detail.

Rating: ✅✅✅✅✅ 5 out of 5
What's not to like about this? It cheap, costs less than a Crapachino and everything works on it. Perhaps it wouldn't be the absolute first choice for die hard outdoor folks but it is reliable enough to use as a backup. Definitely worth the investment!
