My latest product from the people's republic comes in the form of a 'all sizes' battery charger.
Presenting the Fungold Multipurpose Charger, A five quid battery charger that promises to recharge any size (and chemistry) of battery you care to throw at it with a few added safety features for good measure.
It all sounds too good to be true and the item certainly doesn't really look up to much but first appearances can often be wrong.....

The HG-1412W is made from a strong plastic. Not ABS style by any means but thick and heavy gage it would appear. The overall construction is actually quite good considering the pocket change price you pay. It feels robust enough to take a few knocks and falls without cracking the outer case. Something I would consider quite important when a live mains current has to flow through it.

Four large stiff battery holders sit side by side along the front of the unit. These are accompanied by four equality stiff springs which act as size adjusters for the batteries.
A (poorly marked) voltage adjustment slide switch nestles in between the Cell holders to taylor the charge voltage being placed into the cells. This is user adjustable and some degree of care is required when setting up each type of cell to be charged.

Each cell holder has a cooresponding red LED light above it to indicate the current charging state. and a green LED sits in the middle to show that power is going to the charger. pretty simple stuff.

The HG-1412W has the ability to charge both Nickel-Metal Hydride and Lithium-Ion cells and in various sizes too.
AA and AAA Ni-Mh sizes and 18350, 18500, 18650, 26650 (?) Lithium cell sizes. A one-stop shop when it comes to charging your shit.
I must admit, I haven't come across a charger quite like this before.

Operating the charger is really easy. Just select the voltage you want to charge the cell at, insert either 1,2,3, or 4 cells and plug it on the wall.
The red LED lights will show that the cells are connected correctly and thats it.
When each of the cells has fully charged the red LED lights will switch off.
Some cells may finish charging before others in which case the power is cut to that cell and it sits dormant until all the others have finished charging.
The charger incidentally has polarity protection built in so the cells shouldn't short out if they are inserted the wrong way up.
The HG-1412W is fully automatic and almost idiot proof!

Illegal? Really?
Unfortunately the rather fantastic Fungold charger is not legal for sale in the UK (and probably Europe too)
Firstly because it hasn't had any official safety testing in the EU and doesn't feature a CE mark.
Secondly it doesn't have a three pin plug top on it - a requirement of UK law.
Instead it comes with a standard US two pin plug which is workable via the aid of a travel adapter.

Questionable Safety
Consumer safety is not always high in the list of features when a product is designed in China.
And although the HG-1412W does have rudimentary battery and mains protection it does have one major safety issue in my opinion.
No its not the dodgy thin power cable or the quality of the internal electronics, its the voltage setting switch.
Anyone who forgets to set the slide switch correctly could have a bad day if they get it wrong!
You see, if they happen to charge any non lithium-Ion cell like a AA or AAA and leave the slider set to anything over 1.5V then.... well you know whats going to happen!

If the charger is solely being used for one type of battery then I dont see there being a problem. Its set for that voltage and left at that voltage.
It just becomes a concern when the charger is being used for multi types.
The device is safe enough for what it has to do, its all done electronically.
Its only when human interaction is needed (like a manual slide switch) that a risk is involved.

NEVER leave the charger unattended when its in use. just dont.
NEVER leave it on charge when you go to bed or pop down to the shops.
NEVER charge different types of battery in the HG-1412W at the same time.

Bring your own UK mains plug

Overall then I'm really happy with this product. It does everything a 15 quid charger does for a third of the price.
Yeah I guess it doesn't have a fancy company name plastered on it or come with a UK legal plug but I can live with that. It just has to charge my vape batteries after all.....nothing else.

If you are prepared to take a few risks when it comes to safety then this charger is a great value device.
Despite its obvious short comings it works really well and does exactly what it say it will.
Its cheap, Its basic, its no frills and it will charge your vaping 18650's without breaking a sweat.
Just keep your eye on it when its plugged in and you wont go wrong.

Simple two piece affair

Ha ha! Where do you start with the teapot RDA? It's a dripper I had seen a few times on the internet and thought that it looked a little different, a little fancy,  a little bit unique to shove on a mod.
These teapots first saw the light of day back in 2015 made by that well known Chinese brand iCloudcig (right!). As these things were a few years old it proved difficukt to source a brand new original. The clone model was available but it was subtly different and it's always better to get the authentic ones I thought.
Enter good old eBay and some guy in England flogging one cheap.
Suffice to say I didn't hang when it came to bidding on it.

Authentic and numbered

The iCloudcig teapot RDA is basically a tugboat V2 style three poster with a rather unusual glass teapot sat on top. The teapot itself is made from Pyrex glass with a width of around 2mm (in places) with a single air hole on the top and a 4cm spout on one side. The spout is the drip tip of course.
The teapot has triple O-rings to keep the juice in and twin 3mm juice wells to drip juice into. So far so good.
The air flow on the teapot is not adjustable as it's basically a 3mm hole bored into the glass,  maybe not so good?

Building out the deck was actually really easy, especially if you are used to working on a 3 deck system.  only the center pin has to be shared when a dual coil build is required. It can be single coiled though making this deck simple even for a beginner.

The teapot offers a unique cloud and flavour experience compared to the results you might expect from a conventional dripper.
To be honest I'm not too sure why this is? Perhaps it's because the air flow is on the top for a change and the rounded tank swirls the vaper around a bit more? Who knows? It works like a dream though, I'm not complaining.

There's no way of getting around the fact that this thing looks like an illicit crack pipe!
I haven't dared to take it out in public yet for fear of ridicule or arrest, I certainly don't fancy the idea of explaining to the local police what this is and what it isn't.
Therefore I would suggest that the teapot never leave the house and is kept as a novelty for vape friends when they pop around.

I must draw attention to perhaps the worst aspect of this dripper mainly because it could lead to a visit to the hospital!
Imagine you have just coiled and wicked the deck, filled the wells with juice and set the wattage to the desired setting then all of a sudden, POP! and a magma hot giezer of eliquid shoots out the top and directing into your nearest eyeball. It's painful and totally unnecessary. This painful juice popping isn't a one off either, expect it to happen time and again like a sick and twisted game of Russian roulette, you just don't know when!!!
Ironically the lesser priced clone teapot has a longer spout  allowing more of a  chance to avoid a painful eye scalding.

Overall this atomiser is good at what it sets out to do. It provides a satisfying vape and is simple to set up and use. If you don't mind your innocuous vaping habit looking like an illegal one then this is the dripper to get your hands on.
Personally I really like it and more than happy to keep it as a party piece. It won't be to everyone's taste though!

For those looking for something a little different to show off to their mates then the teapot may be a good choice.
It produces good cloudage and reasonable flavour although eye protection is advised  for the enevitable coil pop!

Silica wicks? Who the hell uses silica these days!?

Regular readers of this blog know that I very rarely look at brand new designed stuff.  Yeah it might be new as in never used but never newly released stuff and this is true of my latest vaping dripper the 'Little boy' from MCV philippines.
It was originally released back in 2014! thats three bloody years ago and they are still going strong and being peddled on the likes of ebay.

Apparently the little boy originally sold for a small fortune ($120) when it was first released which was quite a lot of money back then (and still is in my opinion). Quite why it was valued so highly is anyones guess but as I got mine brand new for under a tenner im not complaining.
Reviewers and industry experts back in 2014 applauded the little boy for its immense cloud chucking capabilities but knocked it back on flavour. We shall see!

The MCV Little boy is a simple three post dripper offering either a single or dual coil configuration.
Airflow is managed by a series of slotted holes.
One side of the cap has one air hole for single coil builds whilst the opposite side has two for when using dual coil builds.
conversely, the build deck has air hole cut outs to match the ones on the cap. The only design downside to this is that its very easy to lose juice through them. It can piss out all over the place if you happen to accidentally over drip!
The little boy features an engraved alloy cap, huge delrin chuff cap and stainless steel build deck.
Together with the dripper a small bag of spares are included to keep it in good working order.  Spare O-rings, post screws, mini screwdriver and 510 drip tip adapter are amongst the bits and bobs.

The build quality of this RDA is not bad. Its not the best I have seen but its not the worst. The outer brass cap is made from either stainless steel or an alloy? Im not sure. The coil deck is made from a single piece of stainless steel. The positive pin is the center post whilst the negative pins are the two outer posts.  The 510 positive connector on the underside of the dripper is brass plated (I think) and is adjustable with a flat blade screwdriver - good news for hybrid mod users.
The wide bore chuff cap sitting up top is made from heat resistant Delrin plastic which is great in my opinion. The chuff cap can be substituted for any standard 510 drip tip by way of the special adapter which comes with it.

Anyone familiar with the Mad hatter style drippers will find coil building a synch on the little boy. Its just a basic three post design which requires very little effort.
One coil lead wraps around an outer negative post whilst the other coil lead wraps around the center positive post and thats it. Repeat on the opposite side if you want it dual coiled. Theres nothing else to do apart from wicking it up!

Overall this is a great priced RDA. The flavour is a little muted for my liking however the snazzy design and cloud making capabilities far outweigh the flavour faux pas which I can live with. No I wouldnt have paid top dollar for this back in 2014, no way! But for under a tenner in 2017 its a real bargain. 

This Brass version of the little boy is the best looking in my opinion and goes really well with my Tesla nano 100W steampunk.

The Little boy might be considered old now but it still holds its own as a champion cloud chucker. The flavour isnt the best but the clouds certainly take some beating and keep this dripper up there with the very best. Originally priced at over $100 USD it can now be purchased for under a tenner! A bargain in any ones book!

First Impressions
For those who don't know I'm a bit of a bargain hunter, a bargain hunter who sometimes buys now and thinks about it later on. This can be a risky strategy of course but so far I haven't had many issues with my rash decisions. This rather splendid looking Luggy tank is a point in question. Without any prior research and a low start price on eBay staring me in the face I bid and won it for just 99p! (Plus a couple of quid for postage).
Like a cat that just got the cream I sat back and waiting for it to arrive.
To be honest I hadn't seen a 'Luggy' before and after a bit of Google time I found out that this tank actually belongs to the 'Luggy' box mod. A curious looking device which looks a lot like some trendy aluminium luggage. You know, the metal suit cases that posh people drag around the airport on wheels.

I must admit it is a rather unique design but not my cup of tea.
Apparently the complete kit comes with stickers which can be applied to the main mod to make it look like a really jet setters suit case?! Ok!

You can see what Movkin were trying to do here. They haven't done a bad job really.

So anyway, the box arrived and inside was a whole wealth of bits and bobs to get you started.

Notice there wasn't a spare replacement glass tank in amongst the goodies? The glass in the tank is not replaceable as it's not likely to get smashed. It's as tough as old boots!

The Luggy is made from solid high quality stainless steel with a glass tank. The tank is protected on the outside by an aluminium rib cage which makes it very unlikely to get smashed. I like that feature 👍😉
The drip tip is also made from the same aluminium and feel high quality.
The only other materials used here is silicone for the O-Rings.
Overall the build quality is fantastic, it's heavy and feels rugged enough to take anywhere. I'm really impressed so far.


The Coils
Movkin have been quite generous with the Luggy tank in my opinion. Not only do you get a standard dual Kanthal wire coil, you also get a nickel 200 coil and a spare loose coil for the rebuildable head.
The coils themselves are quite big and heavy and the juice holes wide. This allows the tank to be fired at a high power or temperature without dry burning the wick through a lack of juice flow.

The Luggy can be pushed quite hard. It's more than capable of a high wattage or temperature. It takes everything in its stride.

I won't mention my attempts at rebuilding...... It's a vertical coil at work here and that means it requires a different style of wicking. Let's just say that my inexperience left me with juice in my lap..
I will come back to the rebuild at a later date.

As for the flavour you get from these coil, it's really good. The dual Kanthal standard coil really brings out the flavour when you push the Watts above 50 and the nickel coil seems to smooth things out and adds a creaminess to the taste at settings above 220C.  Not too shabby at all for a big tank.

A most interesting concept. I'm not sure if this is the first tank to do that (it probably isn't)  but it's the first one that I have come across and I do like having the choice of how I can fill it.

The Airflow control

One of the selling points of this tank is it's ability to be both a mouth-to-lung and a staight-to-tank inhale tank. The Luggy adhesives this by having slotted air flow holes on both the base and the drip tip.

To be fair the Luggy doesn't do a bad job of offering both an airy inhale and a tight inhale to cater for both crowds,  exactly what they said on the box. I can't fault them for that.

The other Innovation on this tank (and it might not be a Innovation?) is the strange rifled drip tip. If you take a look down the barrel you will see a deep carved spiral cut into the aluminium running from top to bottom.  Movkin say it makes improvements to the air flow or circulation? I'm yet to be convinced of this but it does look pretty cool none-the-less.

The amount of people who have asked me about this tank is ridiculous. Everyone seems in awe of its size, build and cloud production.  Where can I get one of those? How much did you pay? haha

First Impressions
Looking for bargains on eBay I happened to stumble upon an auction lot of 4 Goblin mini rebuildable atomisers. To b honest I hadn't heard of the goblin so it was a bit of a stab in the dark on my part.
The auction time past and I ended up getting this four pack of tanks for £7.50 + shipping! These goblins originally sold for anywhere up to £24.99 each so this lot did seem a bit of a bargain.
They all duely arrived well packaged and in pristine condition.
The first thing I noticed was the quality of the tanks. Essentially a Pyrex glass tank, stainless steel inner deck and chimney and a glass drip tip. All the parts fitted together buttery smooth.
The capacity of the tank is 3ml although it is possible to get 3.5ml of ejuice in there. I was half expecting this tank to hold 2ml in line with the new TPD laws so this was welcome news. One aspect of the tank wasn't so welcome, the filling of. Unfortunately the only way of filling this tank with ejuice is via a small screw hole on the underside. This basically means you have a carry around a small slotted screwdriver wherever you go which I can see could be a pain on the rear end for some people who chain vape.
The air flow adjustment on the tank is also found on the underside. It basically consists of a simple slide lever which opens two holes allowing air to be drawn from the bottom onto each coil. Despite its crudity it works well and doesn't pose a problem.

I was quite surprised by the amount of spare bits and pieces that were included. spare glass, rubber rings, screws and a drip tip. Everything you might need for maintenance.

The coil deck on this tank is absolutely tiny! I don't think I have seen one this small before. Putting coils on this thing could be a problem for people with crap eyesight. I wasn't really looking forward to coiling it up because of its size (and I have good eyesight!)
The little goblin features a triple post deck configuration allowing for both single and dual coil set ups. The extra fixing holes means you don't have to share holes when dual coiling, something that tends to be annoying and fiddly.

The Goblin mini RTA is the smaller brother to the UD Goblin, much celebrated by reviewers for it flavour and performance. The mini is every bit as good offering dripper quality flavour and bags of clouds.

Building your own Coils
Oh gosh, here we go...coiling on what looks like the world's smallest coil deck!
I can set this being a pain in the arse from start to finish.

Single Coil build

The first thing I had to do on this single coil build was to select a suitable coil.
Only a narrow micro coil will work on this deck due to the lack of space between the + and - posts and the outer cylindrical sleeve. I chose a prewound 0.5 ohm micro coil and set about feeding both leads through the respective holes. The photo above shows the - lead attached on the left and the + on the right (the center post)
I must admit it was a little tricky to get the coil exactly where I wanted it before I could tighten down both of the screws.
Once I was happy with it I snipped off the excess wire and nudged the coil into shape. At this point I thought it was a good idea to check it out on the ohm meter. It seemed ok .

After glowing the coil a few times it was ready to be wicked!
A small 2-3cm strip of Muji cotton was cut and carefully threaded through the center of the coil.
Next I trimmed the cotton back to the edge of the juice hole and tried screwing down the outer sleeve - it didn't go down properly! I had to trim a fraction more off and then it could all be fixed down comfortably.

It doesn't matter if it's one or two coils you opt for, it's going to be an eye squinting fiddly job which can be a bit of a learning curve for beginners. It's quite easy to short of the coils against the outer metal sleeve if they stick out too far when it's all screwed down in place. A bit of care is definitely needed here. Nothing a bit of practice won't sort out.
As mentioned before the wicking is a bitch of you don't get it right. Expect the tank to piss out ejuice through the bottom air holes if you don't get it spot on!  Again, practice makes perfect.

Overall I'm really happy with the little Goblins. Despite a few misgivings here and there they are really good.

The tortuous coiling might seem a little off putting but for those with patience and a good eye then the Goblin mini will repay the discomfort with top end dripper style flavour and billowing cloudage. See one cheap on eBay then it's a no brainer!

First Impressions
It didn't take long after I get into vaping to want a dripper head for my mod device. I had seen all the serious guys in the vape shops dripping their drips and blowing huge clouds and thought I wanted some of that.
Not only did a dripper offer more flavour but it meant it was much easier to replace the coils with my own this saving money.
Not really knowing what I was looking for I took a stab at the Velocity mini doing the rounds on eBay. Compared to the other drippers I had seen the Velocity was much cheaper and seemed basic and simple to use. Flicking around YouTube it seems that the Velocity mini has been getting some good reviews so I felt I had to get one.

The build quality of the Velocity mini is very good. It's a solid little piece of steel with a tough black coating. The actual coil deck is robust, the screw fixings smooth and the airflow adjustment generous.
At £9.99 I would say it was good value for money.


Testing
Flavour, flavour, flavour and more flavour! and I'm not joking.
I was overwhelmed by the taste that this dripper gives off. Driven at a modest 45W I was able to pick out extra flavours in my gourmet e juice collection, flavours I thought never existed.
Wether all this is down to the shorter distance between the coils and your mouth or the pretty decent adjustable air flow is anyone's guess.
Dripping your coils (filling the tank) is an easy straightforward process. You can either remove the top cap fully to expose the coils and drop your drips or you can leave the top cap on full time and just drop your drips through the center of the mouth piece. (The wide bore Chuff mouth piece!) I'm a lazy beggar so the 'drop it through the hole' technique works best for me. 👍

Although the deck is a little small it is quite easy to coil it up.


Putting the coils in

Dual coil 0.4 ohm build

The Velocity mini is exactly the same as the original full size Velocity. It's a twin post, four ported system which allows for a dual coil set up without the need for any holes.
Each side of the deck is coiled by mounting on the diagonal. One leg of the wire is fitted to the lower hole of one side while the right leg is fitted to the upper hole of the other and vise versa on the opposite side. It's really easy and simple to do.


Wicking

Wicking on the Velocity is also a simple operation. You don't have to be too fussy here as long as you don't ram too much down the juice well.
A 2" piece cut for each side should be enough.
Feed through and trim down a little to make two bow tie shaped pieces.
Then it's just a case of carefully poking the ends down into the juice well.

There is plenty of room under the cap to get some pretty large coils in without them touching the cap and shorting out.
Anytime new to coil building will find this deck ideal for practicing on.


When is a clone not a clone?
When the original thing being cloned or copied never existed!
Yes, apparently there never was a Velocity mini., it never was a thing,  No vaper has ever clapped eyes on one? I'm not altogether sure what's going on here.
How can they make a 1:1 clone of nothing?
It's all a little strange but rest assured I will eat my words if an 'original' mini shows up somewhere! 😉

Despite its low price point the Velocity mini punches way above its weight in terms of flavour and cloud chucking. It easily out performs other drippers at twice the price.
In much the same way as it's bigger brother the original Velocity, this mini manages to satisfy each and every time you hit the fire button and for something so small I'm quite surprised. This has to be the little dripper deck that every vaper should own, I have no hesitation in recommending it!
